I am an educator, writer, and architect based in Johannesburg and the University of Pretoria. I work between academia and professional practice, and between governmental and non-governmental sectors, across the related fields of cities, urban studies, education and the built environment. I also act in a strategic advisory and collaborative capacity for City of Johannesburg and international public space initiatives. My research, publications and curricula similarly cover many aspects of city design, urban studies, history, theory, and educational and institutional reform and partnerships. Currently I am also a PhD candidate at the Tshwane University of Technology, studying how complex societal challenges can be better addressed through collaborative and ‘decolonial’ models of knowledge and practice between different sectors of society.
