Sundeep Jivan is a professional architect, & a lecturer in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand.

As the founder of SAJ ARCHITECTS, he is passionate about people, place and architecture. The company’s foundation stems from a love and passion for the built environment and its impact on the daily lives of people.

Educated at Wits, he attended a Global Sustainable Development course at La Sapienza University in Rome. He was awarded a fellowship to research at the Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Initiative with the UN in Kenya.

Sundeep has worked in the public and private sectors, including Rail and Transportation, Pharmaceutical, Food Manufacturing, Healthcare, and community projects. His company has carried out work for Community Organisations, Embassies, public transportation entities, and the City of Johannesburg to name a few.

He presented a lecture on Vedic design and Public space at the University of the Witwatersrand, with an accompanying exhibition which later moved to the Indian Consulate in Johannesburg.

His research interest has stemmed from public commissions he has had the privilege to work on, notably, Gautrain stations & the Johannesburg Art Gallery. This has raised an interest in heritage buildings & public spaces, their relevance, & necessary transformation in post-colonial societies.

He is passionate about the impact of architecture in people’s everyday life & spatial equity & spatial justice.
