Prof. Guy Trangoš
Prof. Guy Trangoš is the Acting Director of the Graduate School of Architecture (GSA) at the University of Johannesburg and a registered professional architect. His interdisciplinary research explores the complex entanglements between urbanisation, society, science, technology, and infrastructure. He holds a Doctor of Design (DDes) from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, an MSc in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Master of Architecture (Professional) from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Prof. Trangoš has taught and led design studios at many institutions, including the GSA (Unit 22), UJ (Department of Architecture), Harvard GSD (as a teaching fellow), and the University of the Witwatersrand (as a sessional lecturer). He has contributed to major research projects at LSE Cities and the Gauteng City-Region Observatory, and has been invited as a guest lecturer and critic at institutions such as Harvard GSD, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Johannesburg.
His research has been supported by international grants and conducted across five continents. He has published in leading journals and platforms including Perspecta, Scenario Journal, The Architectural Review, City, Canadian Architect, and Architecture South Africa. His recent work examines the spatial dimensions and societal impacts of large-scale scientific infrastructure, culminating in his book The Spatialities of Radio Astronomy (Routledge, 2023).
With almost twenty years of architectural practice, Prof. Trangoš has contributed to numerous award-winning architectural, research, curatorial, and graphic design projects.
