Letsabisa Shongwe

Ms Letsabisa Shongwe is a practicing Architect and Director of Arch-live Architects based Gauteng.  She is a full time practitioner since 2011 with project participation in aviation, heritage, education, health, residential and various. Her office does projects in Kwazulu Natal, Bloemfontein and Gauteng.

Tsabi has 16 years full time practice experience in this profession. Her Master’s Thesis 2005 won her the Regional Winner coveted Corobrik Award and placed Second National Corobrik Winner 2006 in the same award. Her professional experience includes being part of the soccer city Fifa World Cup design team of five.

She is a natural Mentor. When she mentors matriculates who have applied, they all gain entry into architecture studies. She has produced 3 Architects under her guidance, two of whom have won the Corobrik Award and other academic awards and competitions.  She is occasionally invited to be an external examiner at various universities as well as serving on Accrediting and Validation panels of Architectural curriculum at South African Universities against the Architectural Act.

Appointed by the minister of Public Works, she is the first woman ever to be appointed on the board as the President of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession when she assumed office in July 2018 as part of the Interim 4th term SACAP Council. During the following 5th term she was elected by the board as Vice President and again in 6th term, elected uncontested but 1 to continue as Vice President.  At the helm of her Presidency, she led Sacap into a governable and accountable SACAP.

Letsabisa is a champion of organizational stability. Her stakeholder relations’ tone lead to mending of relations with the profession at large and helped stabilize the Regular Sacap and enhanced relations with its Constituents. She served the SACAP Council as the Chairperson of the Stakeholder Relations Committee and Chairperson of Professional Fees Committee where, they achieved a breakthrough with the Competitions Commission which led to the publishing of gazette fees after a 7 years vacuum.  She attests her service and wins to leading with a democratic tone, humility, laughter and a sincere respect for the profession.

She was seconded to serve as an Exco member on the Council of Built Environment Board.
