Justin Cooke
Africa is in my heart, my body, my interior landscape, my dreams, daily life the rhythm of every footstep. My character has been etched by adventures of life and design by the people, land and ecologies that I have been fortunate to meet and learn from. This ancient land of great cultural and biophysical depth offers myriad opportunities from which to learn and grow. Being of open, energetic, tenacious and curious of character guides prospection, learning and innovation. I walk with footsteps as a third generation architect with my grandfather and father before me. I incubated the Architecture Coop in 1993. The studio has continuously evolved and been enriched through contributions, close collaborations of individuals and multi disciplinary teams over the years. I have been fortunate to work in many locations, climatic zones including urban, rural and wilderness settings in Southern Africa. The practice focusses on sustainable building and landscape design projects. Architecture Coop has received multiple global and local awards for work done. Design process work has been deepened by research, teaching, lectures and key note addresses, competition adjudication, attending Glenn Murcutt Masterclass, travel and art production. Current projects include sustainable eco and agri tourism camps and cottages, private homes and centres of environmental learning. The growth and learning of the practise continues with each project.
